How to Identify Acrylic Plates

PMMA has the advantages of lightweight, affordable, and easy to shape. Its forming methods include casting, injection molding, mechanical processing, thermal forming, etc. Especially injection molding, it can be produced in large quantities, with a simple process and low cost. Therefore, its application is becoming increasingly widespread, as it is widely used in instrument components, car lights, optical lenses, transparent pipes, and so on.

Due to the difficulty and high cost of acrylic production, there are many high-quality, low-cost substitutes in the market. These substitutes, also known as "acrylic", are actually ordinary organic or composite boards (also known as sandwich boards). Ordinary organic board is cast with ordinary organic glass cracking material and pigment, with low surface hardness and easy fading. The polishing effect is poor after polishing with fine sand. The composite board only has a very thin layer of acrylic on the surface, with ABS plastic in the middle. It is prone to delamination due to thermal expansion and contraction during use. True or fake acrylic can be identified from the subtle color difference and polishing effect of the board section.
